Amidst the high-flying elite of the fashion world are some lesser known, yet equally talented, designers that have been edging onto the radar as of late.
Here are some of our faves that are sure to big this season – get to know them now!
Gabriela Hearst

To observe a collection by Uruguay-born designer Gabriella Hearst, is to take a peek into her life. Currently living in Manhattan, she actively creates pieces that place her romantic, gaucho roots and her city sophistication into a sartorial discourse that is beautiful to behold. Her clothes are feminine without being overtly girlish.
Carl Kapp

Renowned for his immaculate tailoring and attention to detail, Carl Kapp’s collections truly exude luxury. The South-Africa-born, Sydney-based designer specializes in creating evening wear that is relevant and yet timeless. He employs clean lines and natural fabrics, frequently working with silk, to create elegantly stunning pieces.
Teija

A brand that brings forth daywear that is anything but everyday. Teija Eilola, the brains behind the brand, was born in Finland and studied at the Royal College of Art in Britain. On being mentored by Christopher Bailey at Burberry’s head office and having worked as Head of Design at Ted Baker, she amassed quite a portfolio before launching her own brand in 2012. Her designs marry utilitatarian simplicity with fresh, innovative shapes, creating items that are distinctive and yet wearable.
Andrew GN

Andrew Gn is not one to shy away from a bold ensemble. The Singapore-born designer favors maximalist fashion that is striking in its overt use of intricate detailing. His clothes make manifest the melting-pot society with which many of us are acquainted. By making reference to the past and present, as he draws together seemingly disparate cultures. On pairing daring prints with simpler silhouettes he is able to create ensembles that evoke class despite being notably avant garde.
Fabrizio Viti

As Louis Vuitton’s Shoe Style Director for over a decade, Fabrizio Viti has created some of the brand’s most iconic shoes. Having recently caught media attention for his penchant for collecting Barbie dolls, it is precisely from these plastic figures that Viti often draws his inspiration. While continuing to work for Vuitton, Viti is set to launch his own shoe label which we’re sure will live up to our expectations.
Apiece Apart

Although we’re always partial to observing the decadent ensembles brought forth by designers, we love that there are labels that bring us more practical wear. On launching Apiece Apart in 2008, designers Laura Cramer and Starr Hout wanted to create a brand with modularity at its core. Distancing themselves from the eternally shifting world of fads, their collections are focused on creating pieces that can be effortlessly incorporated into ensembles for years to come.
Le Monde Beryl

On bonding over a shared love of gems and jewelry, Lily Atherton Hanbury and Katya Tyumentseva founded Le Monde Beryl in 2015. They create modern renditions of Venetian gondolier’s slippers which feature a slight heel and a pointed toe. Their first collection pays homage to this love of jewels, adopting rich jewel tones in a luxurious velvet.
Caroline Constas

On seeing a lack of wearable clothes that were of premium quality, Caroline Constas created her brand in a bid to tackle the issue. She takes inspiration from the different cultures that she has encountered, particularly Greece and France, and emulates the clothing that she often wore while visiting these places. Her collections are most renowned for their shirts, which are often on-trend and beautifully constructed.
Huishan Zhang

On graduating from London’s Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, Chinese-born Huishan Zhang formed his own label. His collections feature pieces which bring together Eastern and Western elements in beautiful harmony. He is a strong proponent for fashion’s current preoccupation with reinvention, masterfully reworking an array of classic Chinese prints.
